Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need planning permission for a new driveway?
Generally, permission is not required if the surface is made of permeable materials (like permeable block paving or resin-bound) or if the surface allows water to drain into a lawn or border. If surface water will run onto a public road, or if you use impermeable materials, planning permission or a drainage solution (like a soakaway) is required. We design all driveways to be compliant.
Which driveway material lasts the longest?
All our materials are high-quality, but Resin-Bound and expertly laid Block Paving offer exceptional longevity, often lasting 20+ years with minimal maintenance, due to their robust foundation and surface integrity.
How long does the installation process take?
The duration depends on the size and chosen material. A standard domestic driveway typically takes 5 to 7 days to complete, accounting for excavation, sub-base work, and curing time (for concrete/tarmac).
How long do I need to wait before driving on it?
This varies by material: Tarmac usually requires 2-3 days; Block Paving can often be used immediately; Resin-Bound surfaces usually require 1-2 days to cure fully before accepting vehicle traffic. We will provide a specific timeline upon completion.
What is the difference between resin-bound and resin-bonded?
Resin-Bound involves mixing the aggregate with the resin before laying, creating a smooth, permeable, and durable finish. Resin-Bonded involves scattering aggregate over a layer of resin, which creates a textured, non-permeable finish. We primarily recommend the permeable, smooth Resin-Bound system.
